SAGE Eldercare prom

It was a sweet Senior Prom – from candy decorations and sweet music to cupcakes and fragrant corsages. The seventh annual Senior Prom held at SAGE Eldercare June 14 was for participants in the SAGE Eldercare Spend-A-Day adult day health care program and their families.

Thanks to volunteer Lois Shanker from Right at Home in Chatham and Maplewood-based Tracy Trent from Mary Kay, the women of Spend-A-Day were “made up” with makeup and painted nails. Thanks to  flower donations from New Providence Florist and corsage creator volunteer Gene Hamilton, each participant was pinned with a sweet-smelling carnation corsage, and refreshments included cupcakes donated by the King’s in Summit. Many were donned in prom apparel and took to the dance floor, enjoying music by vocalist Lindsay Carter.

“We are thrilled to offer this truly special event every year for our Spend-A-Day participants. It was a fun day, filled with smiles, “ said Laura Keane, Director of Spend-A-Day.

The Spend-A-Day program at SAGE provides days of social and stimulating activities for older adults with varying levels of cognitive abilities in a medically supervised home-away-from-home setting. Daily activities like crafts, sing-alongs, exercise, discussions, and more are individualized to participant’s needs. It offers a valuable respite for spouses, adult children and their families, and other caregivers, offering older adults a safe place to spend the day and remain living at home.  Spend-A-Day hours are 9:30 am to 3:30 pm with extended hours of 8:30 am to  5 pm, Monday through Friday.
